Palazzo Rocca Pop Up
A project in collaboration with
the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Chiavari
intended for the primary school classes of Chiavari
The project was born to give voice to two protagonists:
• Palazzo Rocca, which we all know for its art gallery and botanical park,
• the city of Chiavari at the beginning of the 1900s, with its daily life, its urban planning in continuous evolution
transformation and its gossip.
The project was born from the need to visit the palace with different eyes, immersing ourselves in the lives of the people who lived there: Giuseppe Rocca and his sisters.
The aim is therefore to immerse us in a daily life of times gone by, one we can identify with because it is made up of actions we still do today: buying a newspaper to comment on the news, going to the shops to buy sweets or beauty products, going to the dentist, etc. It is therefore a dive into the past, precisely to 1908, in the wonderful Chiavari of that time, with its gossip, its advertisements for dentures and Entella soaps, its culinary advice, the public telephone in Camogli (which Chiavari lacks), the women's fights in Via Rivarola, the Teatro dei Leoni and the Japanese Veglionissimo, etc.
The activity takes place in one of the palace's halls, where little-known anecdotes and facts about the city are told, followed by a tour of the palace.
Construction kits are also distributed to each student and to the teachers to make this pop-up booklet, which will be started in the palace and finished in class or at home (note: all the animations are very simple and come with instructions!)
