Rolli Frames - Rolli Days 2013, Genova -

What would the Superba have looked like if it had been taken into consideration by great directors for their masterpieces?
Here, rendered in paper and ink, appears the heart of a bustling and noisy city, whose skyline recalls that of New York but whose essence is absolutely Genoese. Soaring skyscrapers resemble the Rolli, among which we glimpse a Palazzo Lomellino, a Tursi, and an imposing Palazzo Spinola, complete with Piazzetta di Pellicceria. Myriads of streets intersect among them, traversed by thousands of 1920s-era cars... Yes, because if Fritz Lang had set Metropolis in Genoa, this would have been a snapshot of it.
And Kubrick? Where else would he have made the twins appear if not in the splendid Hall of Mirrors at Palazzo Spinola?
And Murnau? Through which window would he have let the fatal ray of sunlight filter?
And Godard? Hitchcock?
The work, composed of five models representing five frames from cinematic masterpieces, is intended as a tribute to Genoa, and specifically to Palazzo Spinola. Its gilded and wonderfully opulent halls lend themselves perfectly to hosting, by contrast, this kind of three-dimensional black-and-white illustration. An underlying irony accompanies the viewer, who is encouraged to imagine other scenarios of a city that, for its beauty and mystery, is a masterpiece in itself.
